BUILDING CONNECTION: Compassionate Peer Support Specialist Training Program

Building Connection: Peer Support Specialist Training is designed as a comprehensive and interactive training program for peer support workers. Presentation, discussion and practice activities are utilized to build understanding, competence and confidence in the best-practice models, principles and theories that support mental health and recovery.

This Peer Support Specialist Training adheres to the Standards and Principles of Practice as they are outlined in the following nationally recognized documents:

• Guidelines for the Practice and Training of Peer Support, Mental Health Commission of Canada. (2013)
• Peer Support Canada – National Certification Handbook, Peer Support Accreditation and Certification (Canada). (2016)

 

OBJECTIVES:
Building Connection: Peer Support Specialist Training is 10 designed to provide individuals with lived-experience:

• the knowledge, skills and abilities that are essential and necessary in order to provide effective peer support;
• the motivation, encouragement and understanding that they have a role in the health and well-being their community;
• the belief that the opportunity to “give back”, establishes greater purpose and meaning to their own recovery;
• the required criteria necessary, should they choose to obtain national accreditation or certification.

 

COST: $ 600.00
• 10 days -hours training sessions (24 hours total; one half day each week for 6 weeks)
• Facilitation, Workbook, Worksheets and Binder (Morning and afternoon refreshments provided;1-hour lunch not included)

 

AUDIENCE:
Building Connection is particularly valuable to individuals with lived or living experience of mental health challenges, who want to branch into peer support with the knowledge and understanding of a “specialist”, and who may or may not choose to achieve accreditation.
