COMPASSIONATE CARE – Helping Others Break Free from Addiction
Compassionate Care is designed to help individuals look at the illness of Addiction, or Substance Use Disorder, through a lens of compassion and respect.
When we can better understand the factors that may have been in place which led to addiction, the tie-in to mental illness; the inability to effectively cope with stressors, the damaging effects it has on the brain and how one thinks, reasons and interprets
right and wrong, and the challenges a person experiencing addiction faces daily – we can begin to see the person behind the addiction, and help to support them in a more compassionate and caring manner.
OBJECTIVES:
Compassionate Care allows Individuals gain confidence & greater understanding of the brain and behaviors of individuals experiencing addictions/substance use disorders.
• Understanding the need to address addiction differently
• Recognizing addiction and the risk factors that can lead to addiction
• Understanding and managing the effects of the brain and behaviours
• Strategies for mental illness, wellness and over all mental health
• Recovery, Trauma and Harm Reduction – Models of support
• A Holistic Recovery Path that provides options, choices and self-determination
• Case Study Presentation, Discussion and Q&A
COST: $ 325.00
• 2 full days (must be attended consecutively); In-person only
• Morning and afternoon refreshments provided/lunch not included
AUDIENCE:
Compassionate Care is particularly valuable to individuals and professionals who may encounter situations involving persons struggling with addiction or substance use disorders in their personal or work lives – mental health and addiction service providers, social service or Employment and Income Assistance (EIA) workers, health care workers, youth or family service workers, and those who work with people at risk of poverty and homelessness.
