PEER SUPPORT: Fundamentals Training

Peer Support: Fundamentals Training is a foundational, entry-level training program for peer support workers, customized for entry-level Peer Support.

The training includes discussion and practice activities that are utilized to build understanding, competence and confidence in the best-practice models, principles and theories that support mental health and recovery.

Material sourced from our 10-day “Building Connection: Peer Support Specialist Training” and has been customized for Rural Peer Support, Peer Telephone Support, Peer Respite Support, Community Navigators and Educators, as well as Entry-Level Training. Can be customizable to specific needs for groups upon request.

OBJECTIVES:
Peer Support: Fundamentals Training is designed to be an entry-level training program which will provide individuals with lived or living experience the opportunity to:

• Learn the history, evolution and purpose of peer support
• Understand the role it plays in mental health and addiction recovery
• Discover the best practices and care models that support peer support
• Practice skills in communication techniques that forster recovery

 

INCLUDED:
• 2 full days (may be scheduled consecutively or not)
• Facilitation, and worksheets package

 

AUDIENCE:
Peer Support: Fundamentals Training is particularly valuable to individuals with lived or living experience of mental health challenges, who want to branch into formal or informal peer support work in their communities, with the fundamental knowledge and understanding.
