safeTALK – Suicide Alertness For Everyone
safeTALK is a 3.5-hour training that equips people to be more alert to someone thinking of suicide and better able to connect them with further help. safeTALK – from LivingWorks, the developers of ASIST, the world’s leading suicide intervention training program – uses a simple yet effective model empowers you to make a difference.
Although many professionals are trained in suicide prevention, it is sometimes challenging for a person with thoughts of suicide to think of, or consider, seeking out a professional as a resource, or even know how to access their services.
Family, friends or even co-workers may be the first people to notice changes in behaviour that could lead to thoughts of suicide, so it is especially important that they know how to recognize and then calmly and confidently talk about suicide.
OBJECTIVES:
safeTALK will show you how to reach out to someone thinking about suicide and help them keep safe by promptly connecting them to further support. Your role as a “connector” is the main focus of this training, which features:
• Trainer presentations, facilitated discussion, and skills practice
• Videos that illustrate what happens when signs of suicide are overlooked
• How you can contribute to safe outcomes
• Opportunities to further explore organizational applications of the training
• A community resource person (ASIST-Trained) will be present for support
• LivingWorks safeTALK is offered “in-person” only, and cannot be delivered virtually.
